I would personally rather see the Flyers exercise some long-term patience here and not pay a mint in trade for either guy.

Exactly.

Do not give up the #11 pick for either! Or B Schenn. Or Couts.

I heard that the Flyers are also interested in Jeff Petry from EDM. A lesser known puckmover, who might not cost an arm and a leg, and could slot into the team's middle pair and PP.

Petry would be the ideal sort of guy. Unheralded, and likely won't cost as much as Yandle or Shattenkirk or Byfuglien.

Where did you hear that? Everything I've read includes Petry in their young core and Smid being the guy that's available.

Bill, do you think they should go after Bernier? And what do you think the cost will be?

From someone who claims to be connected to an Oilers insider, so please take with a grain of salt.

I think MacT now installed, he's going to be having a LOT of discussions about a lot of players on his roster.

Perhaps they view him as more expendable with the maturation of Schultz? Still find it hard to believe they would trade from their top-4, unless they're looking for a Coburn/Grossmann type.

I will be pissed if we acquire Byfuglien even if we acquired him for a box of week old Krispy Kreme's (which let's be honest, he would have somehow gotten his hands on them long before then). He's the polar opposite of what I look for in a hockey player.

I'm with you on the blueline stuff. Unless a deal comes along that is more or less a steal, they should just sit tight and add someone like Mark Streit in free agency. I'm not opposed to moving either Grossmann or Coburn either. That's not a knock on them either, I just think there is some redundancy on D when you add L. Schenn to the mix.

A. What's wrong with working at Wawa?
B. I am also firmly on the buyout Bryz bandwagon. Makes too much sense unfortunately.
C. All this talk about trading young good centers has me hoping they sign Striet. Even if it is for 3 yrs and 5 M. Then unload Mez if cap space is needed. Hate to write that as I wish him the best. I'm sure the team knows better then I what his chances of healthy play are.
D. No thank you Read for Bernier. Too much youth in goal for a low paid stud.
E. I know this is absurdly unlikely but here it is...Briere and our 3rd to NYI for Nino and the rights to negotiate early with Striet.

IMO you gotta look at teams who are going to be 'reconstructing'.. Vancouver is one team at the top of that list.

If Edler or Bieksa are up for discussion it would be interesting...

Gotta question not including lindros. A large portion of the younger fan base identifies with him. Take off barber IMO. I wasnt around in the 70's but lindros at a time was the premier player in the sport

My preference is to stand pat, to a certain degree. I'd still buy out Bryzgalov & Briere, and I'd look for a good, solid mobile defenseman with good puck skills. I don't know that I'd be over eager to make the kind of moves they seem to be looking at

But I'm open to seeing what they do. I try to be pragmatic and weigh the good and bad of situation. Would I be pissed at a Couturier for Yandle trade? Not necessarily. It's not automatically a terrible move.

Rundblad. Has he played a game yet. Hasnt he kind of fallen off?

Certainly petry is an interesting name if Edmonton is looking to get bigger. Maybe they take coburn? I'd rather deal grossman than coburn tho

So, if you had your choice between Yandle and Edler, considering what each would cost in trade terms, who?

saw both players and though Lindros was a beast the concussions ruined what might have been.

Another underrated aspect about Lindros' time here: He was the marquee face of the franchise and the main selling point for the Wells Fargo Center (nee Corestates Center) when it opened.

You wonder if that building gets built when it did if they didn't get Lindros.

So was Barber. He left the game as the highest scoring Left Wing in the history of the NHL. You can't say that about Lindros at Centre.

Without a doubt I'd buy out Briere & Bryz. I think they could still be a very dangerous team if they put together a good mix on D plus start playing a good team defensive game. But how long have we been saying this now? I'm not sure the team can succeed with Lavy at the helm if they don't have that "number 1" puck moving dman.

Rundblad's stock is dropping by the day. If they could get him for a 3rd I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

Who knows at this point? I feel like a 2nd and 3rd could net him or a 1st and a decent prospect. Large spectrum, IMO.
